A patented device for protection against predators
|
Due to the increasing number of predators, (in Scandinavia) such as bears and wolfs, a lot of people tend to feel uncomfortable when wandering in wildlife environments. The Swedish wildlife magazine “Rovdjursnytt” writes ”Every other Finn is of the opinion that the bear is to be considered a threat, and almost as many think that the wolf represents the same threat”. Wild animals generally do not attack humans. But if you come between a she-bear and her cub or you disturb a bear by its prey there’s a possibility that they will attack. Mankind has for thousands of years successfully protected herself against predators by using fire. The idea with Bearscare is the same, that you instantly can create a fire for your protection. Bearscare is basically a torch mounted on an aluminium adjustable hiking stick. This makes the Bearscare easy to carry, and to store when not used. A special device is used to ignite the torch in a second if there’s a need to scare away a predator. |

Bearscare is mainly to be regarded as a ”psychological instrument” for people that feel afraid when in nature. The probability that Bearscare would actually be needed for protection is very remote, just the awareness of its presence as support makes one feel safer to move around. The device is protected against rain and snow by a “snap-off” cover that also works as camouflage. |
